Eventually, after significant casualties and a refusal by the higher-ups to commit any more forces to the base, Albracht led the survivors on a night march out, and succeeded in reaching the main base, some ten miles away. Quite an amazing story, but it wasn’t until 2012 that he was awarded a third Silver Star for his exploits at Kate, 43 years after the event, and that was after being recommended for the Medal of Honor. A fascinating account, well worth a read. This 2015 1st Ed Hardcover is in very good condition, with no internal markings and nominal dust jacket wear.
