Description: Her portraits are not just pictures of an Indian but a testimony in themselves to the American Indian that captures the entire realm of each individual personality of her subjects. Penni Anne is not just an acquaintance of her subjects, but becomes involved with a sincere love for and interest in each one and she is able to share with the viewer the beauty of God’s love and the serene, angelic emotions which she sees within her subjects. Much of her work is in hard pastel which she refers to as “most difficult” because of the many hues used and the fact one can barely brush the surface in drawing. Her Indian faces require between 70-80 different shades to achieve the perfect skin tones. The most significant change in her life occurred in the last ten years when she converted to Christianity and her religious beliefs are portrayed through her art which has touched and changed the lives of many. Penni Anne and her husband, Sam, are devoted to God’s work and the American Indian, having helped hundreds of children through their Christian center, “Ranchos Por Dios”. Her love for the Indian is definitely mutual for the Crow Indian Nation adopted her in August 1978 at Crow Fair in Montana and 97 year old John Whitemanrunshim, of the Whistling Water clan of Crow agency Montana, gave her the name “Alawa-Stawe-Ches” which interpreted means “Travels the Good Road”. The Navajo Tribal Chairman of the Colorado River Indian Tribe, Mr. Franklin McCabe, honored her by making their new baby daughter her namesake, Penni Thealena. Penni Anne has participated in many invitational shows and her works have been displayed at Brigham Young University, Galeria de Alamo in N.M. and in the ELWC Art Gallery during BYU Indian Week. Penni Anne is able to preserve the new as well as the old Indian heritage in a most inspiring manner for she is definitely an artist who paints with her heart as well as her hands. *****NEW AND NEVER FRAMED***** ******PRINT NO.
