Description: A Stanley Spencer Almanac with designs by Stanley Spencer, 1983 From the Publisher’s Note, “Some time early in 1926, Charles Prentice of Chatto & Windus commissioned Stanley Spencer to produce twenty-five pen-and-ink drawings on domestic and pastoral themes for A Chatto & Windus Almanack for 1927….In belief that this little book, the only on Spencer ever illustrated, is far too delightful and valuable to be consigned to oblivion, Chatto & Windus have great pleasure in reissuing it now [1983]. Internally it is identical with the original edition with two exceptions; a List of Recent Books has been removed from the end, and the days of the week which related to 1927 have been deleted so as to make the Almanack applicable to any year.” This small hardcover book (5 x 6 ¾ inches, 36 pages) was published by Chatto & Windus/ The Hogarth Press of London, dated 1983. The book is bound black, blue, and white marbled paper covered boards with a quarter spine in black cloth and gold gilt title on the spine. There are black and white illustrations throughout. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hardcovers are in nice condition with just a small amount of edge wear, particularly to the corners and top and bottom of the spine. The covers are also slightly warped. Inside, the book is unmarked and the interior pages are clean and bright, from cover to cover. Both hinges are fully intact and the binding is tight and sound.
