Description: Catechism Of Palmistry : The Sciences Of Chirognomy And Chiromancy Explained In The Form Of Question And Answer, by Ida Ellis This is a very rare/scarce antique book written by renown palmist, Ida Ellis. It was published in 1900 and is a second edition, published by George Redway of Hart Street Bloomsbury, London. There are 19 illustrated plates of palms at back of book with corresponding descriptions of the meaning of lines and positions. There are 12 chapters to the book and 155 pages in all. Chapters include a focus on “Palmistry in Relation to other Sciences,” and a chapter on “The Religious and Legal aspects of Palmistry.” CONDITION: This book is still intact and all pages are present and fully intact with spine. However, there is general wear to spine as can be seen in photos and the book and it’s contents should be handled with care. There is pencil written on inside at the beginning of the book on multiple pages with previous owners names. It was owned by the Martz family of Los Angeles in the Hollywood district with an address of 5166 Hollywood Blvd. The preface page and one other page nearby are heavily darkened with brown color due to a newspaper article inserted/placed there from the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine. This newspaper article is fragile and has significant wear and needs to be handled with care and just an added bonus found inside the book. It is dated December 8, 1935. Please view all photos carefully. Other condition issues include some light brown toning throughout due to the age of the book. The book measures 7.5 inches by 5.25 inches. AUTHOR BIO: The author, Ida Ellis, was part of a family of successful phrenologists at the turn of the century that lived/operated in a seaside resort town of Blackpool. Each family member had specific skills/talents and Ida specialized in palmistry, crystal gazing, automatic writing and psychometry.
