Description: Antique ASHWORTH BROS Hanley, ENGLAND Ironstone Oriental Bird Plates & Bowls ~ Nine (9) Pieces of the Same Pattern ~ circa 1891 ANTIQUE ~ RARITY ~ MATERIALS ~ DESIGN ~ BRAND ~ CONDITION These amazing pieces are from the collection of a friend's late mother who volunteered at an upscale antique shop in Greenwich Connecticut during the mid-century - and ended up buying many pieces from that shop. It is most unusual to find so many pieces in the same pattern from this era. The printed backstamp with the crown was introduced in 1880 and the word "ENGLAND" below the backstamp was added in 1891. The pattern number 221 is hand written on the back of these plates and bowls. Look closely and compare these plates and bowls - they are all the same pattern, but each one is slightly different showing how each piece was individually made - even the colors vary slightly. These four absolutely gorgeous antique plates have multicolored flowers around the rims, a green ring around the inner center and a peacock-looking bird with long tail feathers on a tree with a smaller bird nearby (perhaps the female). Three of these plates measure 10-1/4 inches in diameter and one plate measures 9-1/2 inches in diameter. They each weigh approximately 1 lb., 4 oz.Next are two antique bowls in the same pattern that measure 6-1/4 inches in diameter and are approximately 1-1/4 inches tall. Each bowl is slightly different showing how each was individually made - even the colors vary somewhat. Each bowl weighs about 8 oz.Lastly, there are two small antique bowls and a matching small plate again in the same pattern. Again, look closely and compare these two small bowls and the small plate - they are the same pattern, but each one is slightly different showing how each was individually made - even the colors vary somewhat. Unlike the four larger plates, these pieces do not have the green ring around the inner center. The small bowls measure 5-5/8 inches in diameter and are approximately 3/4 inches tall. The small plate measures 5-7/8 inches in diameter. All three pieces weigh approximately 5 ounces each. Please note that one of the bowls has a crack that is visible but one cannot feel it. It is shown on both sides of the bowl with arrows pointing to the crack. Please see the last two photos. These plates are in amazing condition for being 130 years old. The only piece that has a crack is one of the two small bowls that is 5-5/8 inches in diameter. It is pointed out with arrows in the last two photos. The green ring around the inner center of the plates is worn on some plates and absent on some of the bowlsEach piece is photographed at least two timesPlease view all the photos as they are an important part of the descriptionThese nine pieces weigh approximately 7 lbs. Interestingly, this firm produced china that was found on the Titanic. They continued to produce china with their own marks, however, and sometimes, as with the MANDARIN pattern the mark features BOTH names. The firm ceased trading in 1969.
