Description: 1 Rare Official Giant Half Pound~8 Troy Ounce .999 Pure Silver Commemorative Proof Coin Layered in Pure 24 Karat Gold Was Minted in 2002 For The September-11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks This Magnificent 8 troy ounce "Giant Half Pound .999 Pure Solid Silver Proof Commemorative" contains one half pound of .999 pure silver bullion and is select-Layered in pure 24 Karat Gold. Each officially authorized Proof is individually die struck by The Washington Mint to the highest Proof quality. It was minted in early 2002 to commemorate the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers in New York City. The mintage limit was set at 10.000 max so I don't know how many were actually minted. This one here is number 1387 as shown on the Certificate of Authenticity. The coin is 3-1/2" Diameter and is housed in the factory clear plastic capsule. It comes complete with The Washington Mint blue velvet protective display case and Certificate of Authenticity. It has never been removed from the capsule and is in mint condition. It seems that The Washington Mint no longer produces any more Giant Half Pound rounds after 2007 so they are all becoming harder to get and this one is the hardest one to find. Best of luck! The obverse design is expertly adapted from The Record's legendary photograph depicting firefighters William Eisengrein, George Johnson, and Daniel McWilliams raising the U.S. flag at "ground zero" in New York shortly after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It has the words AMERICA REMEMBERS across the top and SEPTEMBER 11th at the left with the year it was minted 2002 at the bottom. The reverse design is Lady Liberty with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA across the top and HALF POUND .999 FINE SILVER across the bottom. I have had this in my collection of coins, silver and gold bullion for more than 22 years. I have searched many times for another one and I have never seen another one of these offered on eBay ever. This makes me think that anyone else that has one does not want to sell it. There seems to always be a lot of Giant Half Pound Walking Liberty coins from The Washington Mint for sale on eBay and many are selling for more than I am asking for this super rare 9-11 Commemorative. Please realize that eBay is going take approximately $70 after tax from the sale of this item plus my shipping cost which leaves me only about $420. The only reason I am selling mine is because I am getting up in age and my health isn't all that good anymore. I would rather leave the cash to my daughter when I'm gone instead of her having to deal with a bunch of material stuff.
