Description: Some vendors sell lemongrass as citronella. Its not the same thing. .this is the real thing. At the bottom of this information, I tell you how to get free wood chips, seeds, manure and wood ash for the garden. Yes, all free. I ship within one business. Citronella repels mosquitoes and other insects. I live in Florida and have my house surrounded by citronella grass. How to plant. dig the hole a little bigger than the plant. If you have some compost or better-quality soil then add it to the hole. If no better soil is around then don't worry about it. This is very easy to grow. Fill the hole with water and then let it drain out. Now put the citronella plant in the hole and back fill it to just cover the root area and maybe a little bit more. Water a second time and the planting is done. Now water them the next day and then every other day for about a week or two and then water like you do your other plants. How to get free organic fertilizers and amendments for you garden. The bagged fertilizer you use such as 10-10-10 is a byproduct from drilling for oil. I don't want that on my plants. Free compost For free composted material call your local recycle center. Here in Florida, our county shredded up all the trees, leaves and compostable material from hurricane Irma. the stuff is wonderful and does more for the plants than manure. I find screening it first gave me a better product. This is high in nitrogen. Free wood ash Wood ash is high in potassium and phosphorus, I have a local barbecue place that is wonderful, and they use a natural wood charcoal and they give me the ashes for free. In populations where people live to over 100, one of the common factors is they put their wood stove ash into their garden. It is also full of trace minerals that are healthy for you. To find free ash just call your local barbecue places or any place that has a wood fired pizza oven or just keeps a fire going for the atmosphere. Some say no to giving them to you, but you only need one to say yes. Do not plan to put the ashes in a plastic bag or plastic container. Bring a metal trash can with a cover because they could still be hot. I fill mine ½ full each time so it isn’t too heavy. Sometimes the ashes are very light, it depends on if they wet them down or not. But be prepared for them to be heavy. Free wood chips When someone that does tree work in your area has to dump their wood chips at the transfer station or dump, they have to pay a fee. If you have a large yard, you could have them dump a load in your yard when they are working in the area. If you tell them, you want it on a certain time frame then they will be making a special trip for you and charge you. If you tell them instead, “when you are in the area and want to save a tipping fee then they can leave a load at your home”. Be polite and mark the location for them so they can dump them when you are home or away. These wood chips work well to keep down weeds, over time they will improve the soil but in the short term they will not help your soil nutrition. I seem to see most gardeners end up growing too much of something. You could thank the wood chip guy or the ash people or horse people with what you grew too much of. Free manure Horses produce 50 pounds of manure, hay and wood shavings per day. My local riding stable has about 30 horses so they have to move out 1500 pounds of manure per day. They are glad to have you take it. Look up riding stables in your area or places to board your horse or any farm that raises animals. Likely they will be glad to let you take their manure. Older manure is best. Not all manure is equal so do some comparing. Also do not look at the wood shavings as having no value in the garden. They are used to soak up the urine and the urine from the horse is very high in nitrogen so use it don't avoid it. From these sources you now have all the ingredients in Free seeds Here in my area there is a seed library at the Dunedin library. Many libraries have seed libraries within them. Call your local library and ask them if they have a seed library within that library or what library has a seed library in your area. I thought about only giving this information to the people that buy from me but I would rather help more people so I am putting this here for everyone but I also hope you purchase some of my plants. This information will likely save you more than the cost of the plants. Be kind to others and share this information with other gardeners so they can grow inexpensively and organically at the same time.
