Description: Six plinth sets (each set is compromised of an ornate, carved top and carved bottom). There are 12 total pieces. I rescued these in the early 1980s from a gorgeous Victorian farmhouse in southwestern Wisconsin. It had suffered significant fire damage, but the room I rescued these from was completely intact. I have never seen their equivalent in all my years collecting, searching for and lusting after amazing architectural gems. They were never painted. I removed the old nail hole filler which didn't even slightly match the wood. I filled the old nail holes with a closer match, sanded, and stained all. I sealed them with one coat of shellac. I didn't put on a second coat of shellac so that you could fill your nail holes after installing, touching up stain, and then shellacking for a final finish. I'll include lists of the brands of stain and shellac I used. The tops are 5 3/4 inches wide by 12 inches tall. The bottoms are 5 3/4 inches wide by 10 inches tall. A couple of the pictures show a little short pieces of the original casing. There was not enough to include that in the auction so I am including a several inch long piece as a hint to what you might search for separately. The original beaded casing was 5 3/4 inches wide. You could use period appropriate beaded casing or clear pine 1x6. These will be shipped wrapped in incredibly thoroughly since they are nearly museum quality. I will answer any questions through eBay. More photos are available.
