Formally titled "An Act to Promote the Defense of the United States," it was a program in which the United States supplied the United Kingdom (and British Commonwealth), Free France, the Republic of China, the Soviet Union, and other Allied nations with food, oil, and other materials such as weaponry ships and planes. A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. These stamps have been designated as Scott Number 2559c.
