4V. 1889-1896 Knickerbocker Press Theodore Roosevelt's THE WINNING OF THE WEST

Description: Up for sale is the COMPLETE 4 volumes of Theodore Roosevelt's THE WINNING OF THE WEST. This is part of the Presidential Edition of Roosevelt's works published by the Knickerbocker Press of New York (Putnam's) in 1889. This is not the first edition (also published by Knickerbocker), but it was printed in the same year as the first. The first two volumes were issued in 1889. The third in 1894, and the fourth in 1896. Each as Roosevelt finished writing them. The cloth covered boards are worn but presentable. The paste down title labels are present, but Roosevelt's name (in red) has faded from each. Please view all posted photos. Top page edges stained a red-brown. The frontis and their tissues guards are all there. The folding maps in the back are all there. Two in volume two, as called for. The hinges are beginning to split in volume one. The other three volumes are holding. No previous owners' names or bookplates. No foxing, no underlining. HOWEVER, volume 4 has water damage from the title page to page 270. There is about a one inch water stain from the top edges down affecting all of those pages to a greater or lesser extent. The other volumes are stain free. Overall, it's a pretty good set. Hard to find complete. Size is about 6 by 9 inches. Please ask any questions you may have; I'd be happy to answer. These books will be well wrapped and securely boxed. I value the things I sell.
