Description: The turquoise stones that make up this necklace are hard stones 6.8+ on the Mohs scale. It is the reason that they have retained their color. Only hard stones retain color because soft stones absorbs oils and darken. Each stone is individually rounded on a sub straight that is harder than the stones. Where the light reflections off the stones you can see the scratch marks that are faceted to make the stone round from primitive hands along the silk road. Turquoise was used by warriors and royalty for protection from harm and evil. This probably would have been traded along the silk road as real currency. I had this necklace analyzed by a GIA certified gemologist on Hill Street in Los Angeles and I asked him his thoughts on the ago of the stone, his reply was well over a thousand years. He had never seen anything like it. Now there is a big difference between Robin Eggs Blue Persian Turquoise with little to no matrix inside. Those stones are considered the finest for today but back when these stones were traded they were sought after for their varied colors, colors of the earth. The way the holes are drilled to string this necklace points to ancient tools. There are some false holes, just drilled part way, I believe they were last strung in the early 20th century. The necklace weighs 6.4 ounces or 181 grams which equates to 905 carats. The highest qualify Turquoise fetches a $1000.00 per carat.
