Description: 40 RUBY MOON Hyacinth Bean Seeds; Lablab Edible Landscape Hyacinth bean is a tropical plant and likes warm climate. This Ruby Moon variety is a beautiful green-leafed climber with Purple flowers and Purple pods. It is a popular variety with edible pods that are flat, thick and curved. Also widely grown as an ornamental plant in the garden.Growing Tips: - Direct sowing after last frost, or start seeds indoor three weeks before the last frost. Soak the seeds overnight first. If indoor temperature is 70F or higher, seeds should germinate within a week. I use heating pad and grow light to speed up germination and ensure healthy seedling growth.- Prefer full sun; fertile well drained soil; space seedlings 6-12" apart; rows 3' apart. Or space them out in small hills/mounds, each hill should be 18" wide and 12" deep, with four seedlings planted per hill. You can also sow 8-12 seeds per hill and thin them out later. Crowded vines actually yield lesser harvest.- The vine is vigorous and needs to be supported via fence, trellis, arbor, teepee, meshed wire, cattle panel..etc. One year I had few vines climbed up the Dawn Redwood tree and the tree is dotted with hyacinth bean flowers even at 12' tree top level.- Pods harvest begin about 75 days after transplant. A popular recipe is riblet stew, add hyacinth beans later and simmer it for 20 minutes.- To collect seeds for the next season, wait until pods are fully dried, let it sit in a ventilated place for few weeks, then peer the pods to gather seeds. Here in Chicago zone 5B, some seeds fallen to the ground will reseed themselves in the spring.Back in the late 1970's, we live in an old cape cod house in Zion Illinois with chain link fence installed by the previous owner. My dad planted ~100 hyacinth bean vines each year, and the ugly galvanized fence turned into an ornamental natural barrier. The local newspaper wrote an article to capture this amazing floral display.$3.95 S&H via USPS First Class with Tracking Number, combined multiple items & save!.
