Depending on the design, this type of clamp is less prone to leaks, and is a good way to secure parts together without the use of welds. “Lap-Joint” Band Clamp Lap-joint clamps are best when cosmetic appearance is important, as well as serviceability of the joint. This type of clamp is much easier to separate should a component ever need to be removed or replaced, so if disassembly is important, this clamp would be preferred over band or saddle clamps.
