About Tagua Nut: Phytelephas is a Genus Containing Six Species of Medium-Sized to Tall Palm Trees (Family Arecaceae). Occurring From Southern Panama Along the Andes to Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru, They Are Commonly Known as Ivory Palms, Ivory-Nut Palms or Tagua Palms That Can Reach Upwards of 60 ft Tall. The Nut or Seed is Referred to as Vegetable Ivory or Tagua Nut, Which is a By-Product Produced From the Very Hard White Endosperm of the Seeds. Vegetable Ivory is Naturally White to Off-White With a Fine Marbled Grain Structure. In Its Original State, the "Nut" is Covered With Pericarp, Which Gets Removed by Various Animals.
