Description: BLUE SAGE. A fast-growing perennial with a bunch of uses. Fresh cut flowers, dried flowers, medicinal and culinary. This plants genius Salvia means "To Heal". Direct sow in the spring. Plant seeds just below the surface, the seeds need light to germinate. Keep seeds moist until seedlings appear, about 10 days. Thin seedlings to about 20" apart. After this plant is established, it is pretty much carefree. Steady medium water and a little fertilizer. Mature plants will tolerate heat and some drought. Starts blooming in mid-summer and blooms through to fall. Cut back bloom spikes after first flowers have run their course. Blue Sage will get wider and bushy, and then will produce a lot more flowers on shorter spikes. This plant can be grown as a perennial in the warmer states. Blue Sage also does well in med/large containers. This plant will tolerate some afternoon shade in hot climates. The flower spikes will get about 24"tall and the plant will spread out to about 20" wide. The leaves are 4" x 1" and are a bright green. Deer and rabbit resistant.
