The plaque is eastern white pine (sourced from a local sawmill) 36" in length by 5.5" in height stained and sealed with two coats of satin urethane, ready to hang. Lewis Temple invented this harpoon tip which is named after him (Temple Toggle). The tip on this harpoon is a smaller version. A skilled blacksmith from New Bedford, MA, Temple a former slave, in 1848 created a new type of harpoon with a moveable head that prevented the whale from slipping loose.
