Description: NEAR MINT! 28” Pictorial Ceremonial Sioux Pipe with UNSMOKED catlinite bowl! Hand-carved effigies and a stately unsmoked catlinite bowl make for a stunning presentation! This 28” Standing Rock pipe was made by Sioux Native Americans, and features hauntingly beautiful carvings of bison, turtle, deer, and sheep. These carvings are painted in polychrome; natural hues that accent the deftly carved wooden stem and warm red catlinite bowl. The stem and bowl were made by different artisans. The stem has likely been smoked, and is also likely far older than the bowl, as it has developed a beautiful patina. The stem is signed by a pictorial hallmark on the back, and was made by a carver from the Standing Rock Lakota/Dakota Sioux peoples. The unsmoked catlinite bowl was carved by master pipemaker Raymond Redwing (Santee Sioux), who quarries at Pipestone National Monument. His signature is on the base of the bowl. This piece has a wall-mount apparatus on the back by the mouthpiece. Condition: This set is in NEAR MINT condition! The stem shows signs of light and respectful use, as a pipestem should show. It likely can still be used. The bowl is unsmoked. It has a few nicks around the edges; it is unknown if this is how it was made or if these are from storage. None are bigger than fleabites, and there is not signs of cracking or hairlines that would disrupt the physical integrity of the piece.
