Description: This is a lithograph after a painting by German artist Carl Spitzweg 1808-1885,titled “The Book-Worm”. It was found in the this quarter sawn oak frame, that’sin remarkably good condition measuring 29 3/4”x 21 3/4”. It had a partial tag onthe back from Jordon Marsh in Boston, which opened in 1851. It also had an old newspaper from Boston, dated 1886, that protected the the lithograph from the original wooden backing. The lithograph is attached to a heavy paper board and does have some minor foxing on the outer white areas. It was published in Berlin by F. Sala & Co., with the colored portion of the printmeasuring 18 1/4”x 10 1/8” and has a 3/4” yellow border. It has all new framing materials and has the original glass. The original painting hangsin the Central Public Library, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
