Description: For sale is a 1999 Dolley Madison Commemorative Silver Dollar Two Coin Set. Each coin was minted at Philadelphia, one Proof quality and one uncirculated. Each coin measures 1.500 inches in diameter, and is composed of 90% Silver and 10% Alloy. The National Trust for Historic Preservation commissioned Tiffany & Co. to prepare designs for the Dolley Madison Commemorative Silver Dollar. Tiffany & Co. donated designs to The National Trust, which in turn provided both the obverse and reverse designs to the United States Mint for production of this exquisite coin. The obverse features a portrait of Dolley surrounded by gardenias. Dolley is seen against a background of a domed temple that covers the Madison-era icehouse, which can still be found on the grounds of Madison's Virginia home, Montpelier. The reverse features an elegant view of the portico of Montpelier, accentuated by graceful willows. The Dolley Madison Silver Dollar bears the hallmark "T&Co" as a credit to Tiffany & Co for the design. United States Mint Sculptor/Engravers, T. James Ferrell (obverse) and Thomas D. Rogers (reverse) are responsible for translating the design art into a three dimensional sculpture from which the coin dies are produced. Their initials (TJF and TDR) credit their contribution to the beauty of this coin.
