Description: COLLEGE DAYS In high school he was named to Pittsburgh's All-Catholic High School team. But when it was time for college, the 5 foot 11, 140 pound John Constantine Unitas was rejected as too small by a number of schools, two of them being Notre Dame and Indiana. Finally, he received a football scholarship at the University of Louisville where he spent four years (1951-1955) growing to 6'1", 196 pounds. In 1955 the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Unitas as a quarterback in the ninth round but he was released before the season began. He went on to play for the semi-pro Bloomfield Rams in New Jersey. In 1956, for the price of a phone call, the Baltimore Colts gave Unitas a try. What an investment! It was there that No. 19 would make his mark for the next 16 years.
