Western Pride, first of four new seismic exploration ships to be added to the worldwide fleet of Litton's Western Atlas oilfield services subsidiary, sails into active contract work for an oil company in European waters. The 230-foot survey vessel will acquire complex seismic data from deep below the ocean floor through as many as four hydrophone-studded fiber-optic cables towed behind in a miles-long parallel array. Western Atlas recently took delivery of the Western Pride, one of its four new seismic exploration ships. The 230-foot, Norwegian-built ship is now operating in European waters. It can tow as many as four hydrophone-studded fiber-optic cables, which gather data on underwater rock strata through collection of reflected sound waves.
