Description: Mata Ortiz Butterfly Olla Purchased from R.G. Munn Auction, New Mexico about 25 years ago. It was identified as "1990s Mata Ortiz Pottery." It is about 5 3/4" tall x 6 1/2" wide. Top opening is about 3 1/2" across. Glossy tan/brown finish overall with 8 hand-etched and painted butterflies (red & black matte). I gave this to my mother who loved everything with butterflies. Unfortunately, at some point my dad placed a sticker on the bottom, and when the sticker was removed, some paint was lost as well as the specific artist's name. However, a simple eBay search will reveal other tan Mata Ortiz ollas with these butterflies and with the name "Lupe Soto" thinly etched on the bottom. Mom and Dad are both gone now (lived to be 90 and almost 99!), so it's time for someone new to enjoy this olla with its amazing butterflies.
