Description: Up to $550 for raw examples advertised on Ebay as of this posting. Identical in cause to the valuable 1922-D No D cents, types one and three, the Mint released an estimated 10,000 1989-P quarters that likewise lacked the mint mark due to a filled die. Each initially traded for up to $1,000 or more with legendary dealer Harry Forman settling on an $80/$100 buy/sell spread for raw AU examples, which most known examples graded. That would equate to a $260 selling price today counting inflation! But self-proclaimed "experts" inexplicably dismissed the variety to the mass media due to its cause even though those very same "experts" had deemed identically-caused no mintmark varieties in other series worthy of notice. Forman was justifiably enraged and felt that numismatics missed a gargantuan opportunity to promote itself with a major, valuable variety that anyone from the public could find in change. He continued to advertise his old buy/sell spreads until he sold out. PCGS's "experts" call these "Minor Filled Dies" even though the mint mark is completely missing and enough were produced that it should be called a variety and thus not an error. And even though PCGS and all other services recognize the types one and three 1922 No Mintmark pennies even though ALL of them have a partial mintmark but the 1989 No-P quarter has no trace of one! At the very least, a fascinating piece of numismatic history and one of the few specimens certified versus the usual grossly over-graded raw specimens on the market at any given time. And most of the raw coins are not even real No P's! Rare, unusual, historical, fascinating, and vastly underpriced.
