1986 Leo Mattel Rare India Foreign Issue School Going Skipper #1284 NRFB Cello

Description: This is a very rare 1986 Leo Mattel foreign issue school going skipper doll, made exclusively for the Indian market by Leo Mattel. The doll is 9.25 inches tall, with a box length of 10.5 inches with curly blonde hair in 2 ponytails and blue eyes. It comes with removable clothes, a outfit, and accessories, and is packaged in its original box covered with unopened cellophane. The doll is part of the Barbie product line and has a light complexion. It is a special edition collector toy that is durable and perfect for all occasions. The doll package weighs 8 oz. This unique doll is perfect for collectors and doll enthusiasts alike. Foreign Issue Skipper made exclusively for India by Mattel affiliate, Leo Mattel. 1986 School-Going Skipper #1284 is never removed from box. She features a new head mold that was only used on this doll for the Indian Market. Her face mold is unique. It has a square appearance. This face mold is very pretty. She has blue eyes. Contents of the box includes: Skipper doll, school uniform with blouse, extra fashion, shoes, water bottle, school bag, pencil box, comb, lunch box, writing board, and label sheet. The doll and contents appear pristine inside the packaging. It appears the accessories continue to be held by tape or the tabs/slits of cardboard backer. Her extra fashion is a blue dress with white polka dots that appears to be a variation of #2237 So Active Fashion. The rubber bands of her pig tails appear intact with white bow ribbons intact. The manufacturer, Leo Mattel, specially wrapped this product for extra protection. The original cellophane packaging is intact with no tears noted. The original tape is intact. The cellophane has a red price tag marked 24.99 in upper right hand corner on front of doll. The box is in very good to excellent condition but has a few flaws. See photographs. On back of box on right side (see chalkboard/vase area of pics) has a minor crease. On side of box with proof of purchase, there is an indentation/crease (see the blue, red book area in pics). On side of box with UPC code, the box slightly curves outward. This doll has been stored in my glass curio cabinet for 25-30 years. I purchased this doll in the late 90's/early 2000's at McMaster's Barbie Auction in Ohio. This item will be carefully packed and shipped with insurance. She was a dressed doll available in five different outfits and in two new head molds that were only used for that doll. One of these head molds resembles the "Hot Stuff Skipper" headmold. The fashions were unique to these dolls – except for one doll, which was dressed in #2237 ‘So Active Fashions’ from 1986 (a pink and white dress). Mattel had an Indian affiliate, Leo Mattel, who produced Barbie dolls for the Indian market, where Barbie wasn’t well known. The company was based in Nagpur. Production started around 1986.
