The engine was the 3.5 liter 6-cylinder M5. From June 1987 the American M6 was also based on the E24/2 type; Production of the M6 US ceased in September 1988. Of the 1,767 BMW M6 US produced, 135 were built to Canadian specifications, with metric instruments.
