HE COMES THROUGH AS A MAN OF INFINITE PATIENCE." -AMBLER (Eric, English author of thrillers, in particular spy novels, who introduced a new realism to the genre, 1909-1998); CHRISTY (George, charismatic fedora-wearing American columnist, of proud Greek origins, who wrote the weekly gossip piece 'A Good Life' in The Hollywood Reporter for 26 years, and who was widely liked by the stars and wider artistic fraternity in California. The review is dated 26th October 1981, and he mailed it to Christy on the same day.We speculate that the review was too stinging to be printed, and the fact that the letter is still attached to the review pages, and both are still present in their original mailing envelope, would support this, as does the lack of any editorial markings on the sheets. Or perhaps it was just surplus to requirements, and there was no space for it in the next issue of the Hollywood Reporter. Either way it seems to us that the review may well have never been published, and that Ambler and Christy were the only parties privy to it until we discovered it amongst Christy's personal papers quite recently.
