Description: From 1968 to 1984 the North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top flight soccer league in North America, and over time it featured many of the world's greatest players, including Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, George Best, Giorgio Chinaglia and Johan Cruyff. In 1979 the League Final (dubbed the "Soccer Bowl") was played on September 8th before 51,000 fans at New York's Giants Stadium between the Tampa Bay Rowdies and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver's team featured a charismatic mix of ex-pat Brits and a couple of talented Canadians, and to get to the Final they had to first win rounds against the Dallas Tornado, the LA Aztecs and then, in one of the most memorable series in NASL history, the defending champion New York Cosmos. Trevor Whymark would score both goals in a narrow 2-1 Vancouver victory over the Rowdies, making the Whitecaps League champions for the first and only time. Offered here is a 16 page booklet produced locally in Vancouver in limited quantities by Boots Drugs shortly thereafter to re-visit the Whitecaps' historic season from start to finish. 8 1/2" x 11", in stellar condition, with just slight exterior signs of use. Shipping - The booklet will be mailed bagged and packaged with stiff backing. I always combine shipping costs when multiple items are won, and it's my policy to redeem buyers for any excess shipping costs paid.
