The battery tray in your Mustang mounts to the front fender apron provides a safe place for the battery to sit, and protects the metal apron from the corrosion caused by the battery. It is extremely common for the plastic battery trays found in Mustangs to be completely rotten after years of abuse. Once your battery tray has reached this level of deterioration, your Mustang is generally unsafe to be driven on the open roads and will probably not pass tech inspection at the race track.
