Description: 1978 Press Photo Wisconsin National Guardsman during winter subzero exercises This is an original press photo. Wisconsin: National Guard: Fighting battles with the cold and snow as well as the "enemy" more than 400 men from the Wisconsin national guard stationed in Whitefish Bay and the Green Bay area geared up for a two week winter exercise at Camp Ripley, Minn. Several days of subzero temperatures and wind chill factors as low as 60 below zero kept the soldiers moving on cross country skis to keep warm. During winter training, which is used to simulate combat conditions in a cold environment, classes in skiing and use of cold weather gear were part of the rigorous activity for all the men, including Lt. Col. David Youngblood of Brown Deer. At camp were Battery A, 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery, from Whitefish Bay, and the 1st Battalion, 127th Infantry from Green Bay. Lt. Col.
