Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. Picture Out Past - At the Mencien Plantation, when this picture was made back in 1918 the sole means of getting to and from school was by horse and buggy. The mare's name was Aunt Lizzie, and she was a birthday gift from father to daughter Beatrice A. Gray (Mrs. Elmer N. Baldwin), contributor of the photo. Mrs. Baldwin, of 1012 N. Upland, Metairie, says, "My Dad gave me Aunt Lizzie when I was 13 years old. I drove her to school every day, a round trip of some six miles. When I'd get to school, I'd unhitch her so she could graze nearby. After school, some of the boys would help me hitch her up again." Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 08-04-1974.
