Description: Description: Printed in 1971 this elaborate, large, and beautiful Jewish Bible has the text in Hebrew And English. There are numerous, beautiful illustrations by Gustave Dore, corresponding to the text at the location where they are found. This Tanach has very nice metal and silver plated covers designed with the Kotel (Western Wall), Migdal David, Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem, and a scene depicting Jerusalem. It also has the slogans of the Twelve Hebrew Tribes in the Bible. The rear cover has a stylized, modern, Menorah emblazoned in the center of elaborate borders. The title says, 'The Holy Scriptures, A Jewish Bible according to the Masoretic text. Shalom Publishing House Tel Aviv, Israel. The over-leaf states 'This edition has been printed by photo-lithography from the Jewish Family Bible. London 1881, for which the English text was revised by Rabbi Michael Friedlander. Principal of Jews' College, London. Printed in Jerusalem, Israel 1971. Produced by Keter Press, Jerusalem. This edition is the largest Tanach found in this metal cover format and the largest edition I know of, of the classic Friedlander translated edition. This special edition also incorporates the many lithographic artistry of the renowned Gustave Dore. There are over 90 illustrations by Dore, all printed on heavier stock paper at each interval. This is the entire collection of his art which were published individually on the Old Testament Bible, which is pretty amazing! Measurements: 9 x 7 x 2.5 inches thick! This is the large version not the more common small one. Condition: Generally clean but with a light staining on edge of pages at top margin edge/corners on a few pages and at side when book is closed only. Some creasing, as shown to initial and last few pages only, and some edge ripping to those pages only. The family page, records ledger, and presentation pages are all blank and have not been filled out yet so they are available to so be done by the purchaser of this book. The entire book is free from any writing inside. Please note that as shown some areas seem to show rubbing and/or wear of the silver plate coating as is normal for silver ware of this age, however it is mostly at the edges. This is one of the best conditions that I have seen of one of these.
