Description: By: Sopexa Date: 1970s (circa) France Dimensions: 34 x 25 inches (86.5 x 63.5 cm) This is an original vintage pictorial map of the South West wine region of France, south of Bordeaux and on the border with Spain. South-West France covers the upstream areas around the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, as well as the wine-producing area of Gascony. The brandy-producing region of Armagnac is situated within the region as well, and sometimes Armagnac is mixed with wine to produce a drink called Floc de Gascogne. The region produces a wide variety of wines. The map shows southwestern France from Bordeaux to the border of Spain to the city of Toulouse. On the left side is the Atlantic Ocean. Within the map are circles containing illustrations of various towns, castles, and mountains. Drawn directly on the map are illustrations of geese, people in traditional dress, fish, trees, and of course, grapes. At the top is the title text “Les vignobles de France” (“The vineyards of France”), and at the bottom is the subheading “Vins d’Alsace” (“Wines from the South-West”). Sopexa is an international communications and marketing company headquartered in Paris. Founded in 1961, they provide marketing assistance to food and beverage companies. This series of wine maps were produced by Sopexa in collaboration with the Comité National des Vins de France in the 1970s. Condition: Map is in A condition with full margins, bright colors and linen-backed for preservation and presentation purposes. Inventory #12087 1932 S.
