This is part of the text of a speech made by G. Harrold Carswell, President Nixon's nominee to the Supreme Court, which was printed in Carswell's own weekly newspaper, the Irwinton (Georgia) Bulletin, on August 13, 1948. The part of the speech which has drawn fire reads: "I yield to no man, as a fellow candidate, or as a fellow citizen, in the firm, vigorous belief in the principles of white supremacy, and I shall always be so governed".
