Description: : ORIGINAL MILTON ETTING HEBALD (b 1917) BRONZE ---"THIS STATUE WAS CREATED BY MILTON HEBALD IN HONOR OF THE ELECTION OF HERBERT I CORKIN TO THE REFORM JEWISH APPEAL SOCIETY OF HONOR 1968-'69" THIS IS A REALLY GREAT ORIGINAL BRONZE. FOR THOSE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ARTIST HIS BIOGRAPHY READS: A sculptor working primarily in bronze but also in plaster, terracotta, and wood, Milton Hebald does figural pieces that have strong diagonal lines and Baroque theatricality. He is interested in the roots of sculpture from the eastern Mediterranean tradition through the Renaissance and Baroque periods, especially Bernini of Rome. His most famous work is the Zodiac group, a 220-foot-long bronze in the Pan American Terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport. At one time it was the world's largest sculpture. Another of his subjects was the novelist James Joyce of whom he did a life-size portrait, which marks the author's grave in Zurich, Switzerland. He also sculpted characters from the Greek tale of "Ulysses" and created the bust of Richard Tucker at Lincoln Center. Hebald was born and raised in New York City, and studied there at the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design, and the Beaux-Arts Institute. During the Depression, he worked for the WPA, and his first one-person show was in 1937 at the American Artists Congress Gallery. He also exhibited regularly at the Whitney Museum. In 1956, 1957 and 1957, he won the Prix-de-Rome from the National Academy in New York and moved to Rome to work there at the National Academy. later he moved to Lago di Bracciano until 2004, when he returned to the United States. THIS IS A REALLY WONDERFUL LITTLE BRONZE. MEAURING 5 3/4 X 3 3/4 X 3 1/4 INCHES IT IS A WONDERFUL VIEW OF 2 FIGURES IN BATTLE. ONE WITH A SHIELD AND ONE A SWORD OR CLUB. ARTIST SIGNED WITHIN THE BRONZE ON THE BACK OF THE SHIELD. OUTSTANDING RARE ORIGINAL WORK. AS CREATED BY THE ARTIST. THERE IS JUST A VERY SMALL SPOT OF GREEN PATINATION AT THE BASE OF THE SHIELD AND ON HIS ARM. BRONZE IS ON A WOOD BLOCK BASE WITH THE ORIGINAL BRASS PLAQUE ABOUT THE AWARD. I WAS GOING TO REPLACE IT WITH A PIECE OF MARBLE FOR THE PERFECT DISPLAY, BUT THOUGHT THAT SOME OWNERS MIGHT WANT IT COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. THE NEW OWNER CAN DO WHAT THEY DESIRE. REALLY JUST AN INCREDIBLE PIECE. HEBALD'S WORKS ARE MOSTLY HUGE AND VERY EXPENSIVE. DONT MISS THIS CHANCE TO OWN ONE THAT IS QUITE EASY TO DISPLAY. A MARBLE BASE WOULD MAKE THIS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR EVEN A DESK. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS EXCELLENT PIECE!!! DONT MISS THIS CHANCE!!! FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES!!! SHIPPING AND HANDLING AND INSURANCE CAN BE CALCULATED. ALL ITEMS ARE BEING SOLD AS IS. PICTURES ARE AN EXCELLENT INDICATION OF CONDITION. CHECK MY FEEDBACK AND YOU WILL SEE THAT MY CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY. I GENERALLY SHIP ONCE A WEEK SO PLEASE BE PATIENT. IT TAKES TIME TO MAKE SURE ALL OF THIS ART AND ANTIQUES ARRIVE SAFELY.
