Description: 1968 Presidential Voter's Guide: Nixon vs Humphrey Year America Changed Forever Here is a fascinating time capsule from the the fall of 1968: An independently published election guide for the upcoming Presidential race between Richard Milhous Nixon and Hubert Horatio Humphrey along with their running mates Spiro Theodore Agnew and Edmund Sixtus Muskie. In a year filled with assassinations, riots, escalated wars, along with lies and duplicity of all kinds, this election eventually yielded both a president and vice president who were soon removed from their offices in scandal and shame due to grave legal and moral failings. Unfortunately, that did not stop the problems the USA was dealing with during one of the most tumultuous eras in our nation's history. Nixon had a "Secret Plan" to end the war in Vietnam and campaigned on a platform of "Law and Order" using Agnew as his dog whistler to call out the "nattering nabobs" straw dogs in their crusade to work the will of the "Silent Majority." Humphrey was tied to Johnson's apron strings until the very last days of the campaign when he finally half-heartedly called for an end to our involvement in Vietnam. Robert Kennedy was dead and Eugene McCarthy was steamrolled by the "Party." Me, personally? It was my first election and I wrote in Dr. Benjamin Spock (the "Baby Doctor") who was under Federal indictment for sedition because he was publicly calling for an end to the Vietnam war. But I digress..... This handy little booklet is the kind of thing you would want to have if you were boning up for an appearance on Jeopardy. Its 24 pages are simply crammed with many obscure factoids about the presidency. For example, it lists all of the losers of prior presidential races, the religion and burial place of every former president as well as their parent's names and ancestry, the maiden name and birth and death date of each president's wife(s), the host cities of each nominating convention (from 1856 on), all the then current governors, senators, cabinet and Supreme Court members, and on and on and on. It's a fascinating read and is presented in an utterly neutral tone under the imprint of the Stockham Valve and Fittings Company of Birmingham, Alabama as a public service to encourage us to exercise our "obligation to vote." 1968 Election Guide If Ever a Time Could Be Called "Groovy"The 60's Would Be It! As today is the era of technology and instant connection, the 60's were a time of social consciousness and mind expansion. When asked which era people would most like to live in, the 60's Summer of Love is the most popular destination. But, it's not coming back, and it doesn't have to, because it already thoroughly informs and drives the culture we are living today! So, just remember the next time you are tempted to say "Okay, Boomer..." to kiss off someone who looks old: The 60's were our gift to all you wanna-be hippies and hipsters out there!
