Description: Programming the IBM System/360 by Computer Usage Co. 1966 This is a hardback volume published in 1966 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. It measures 6.25 x 9.25 inches in size, and is 316 pages long. It has some slight discoloration on its back cloth cover and an owners name and address written in ink on the inside front endpage. It is otherwise in fine condition, with a dust jacket that shows moderate wear. The accompanying photos show the titles of all the books chapters. In a Preface, its editor, Ascher Opler, writes: This book describes the various techniques used in programming the IBM System/360. Although directed to experienced programmers, the book may also be used to learn programming. It is both a reference book and a textbook. . . . This book has been a joint effort of twenty members of the staff of Computer Usage Company. CUC has been involved in programming System/360 since November 1963. At the current time, CUC has written and checked out approximately 200,000 lines of symbolic code for this machine. The preparation of this book was undertaken in an effort to pass along to the computing community some of the knowledge gained in this early use of the equipment. And in a brief Foreword, Elmer Kubie, President of CUC, writes: It is vital, in view of the projected widespread use of the IBM System/360, that early experience be made generally available to the entire computer community. This book, prepared by members of the professional staff of Computer Usage Company is meant to fulfill that purpose. CUC was fortunate in obtaining considerable experience in the programming of System/360. As a result, staff members gained early and intimate exposure to IBMs third generation computer. Hopefully, this first book resulting from direct System/360 experience will help in some measure to advance the field. _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
