This moon-like appearance in the Niagara River, at the base of the American Falls, was formed by ice cakes swirling down the river from Lake Erie and cascading over the cataract. The ice buildup, 15 feet deep in spots, is the biggest today since the mid-1950s. Veteran observers expect the ice to last at least another week.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches.
