Description: Handsome fold-out 1964 Esso road map of New York City and Long Island, printed more than 53 years ago. This map opens to a generous 23½" x 33½" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company. There is an inset of lower Manhattan, from Central Park to the Battery. The map of eastern Long Island shows the "approximate alignments" of the proposed extensions of the Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway. The map was distributed by the Humble Oil & Refining Company to promote its Esso brand. It is dated January 1964 in the legend and copyrighted © MCMLXIV (1964). The code number on the back cover is W664, making this the June edition; the prevous edition was January (W164). The front cover artwork shows a family in a convertible driving along Grand Central Parkway past the New York State and New York City World's Fair buildings.
