Description: 1963 Press Photo James Maxwell supervises data processing at Fort Pierce This is an original press photo. Fort Pierce. In a well soundproofed room in the new utilities building, trim and mysterious looking machines are humming, as thousands of facts and figures are translated into rectangular punches on cards. The city's new data processing equipment is gobbling up information about the utilities billing and collection and later this year automation will be taking a lot of the drudgery out of the complicated bookkeeping system. James Maxwell, supervisor of the data processing department, has been on the job since October. He says June is the present target date for the complete changeover of the utilities department to the IBM machines.Photo measures 8 x 10inches. Photo is dated 02-22-1963.
