Description: Ultra rare, April 1961 Epiphone Coronet Solidbody Guitar SB533MV. There were exactly 7 of these made in all of 1961. This is a transitional model featuring the last of the original Epiphone parts and 1959 Gibson electronics. This particular example features a 5 digit serial numbers in the 1xxxx range, the last of the Epiphone Pearl, (metal), headstock logos, 1959 Central lab pots 134907 dated 7th week of 1959 with real Sprague bumble bee tone capacitor, slant NON comp bridge and most notably the three extra pick guard screws at the base of the neck and in front of the bridge for a total of 7 pickguard screws. The neck is equipped with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. I believe this Coronet with the Maestro Vibrato may be a special order or prototype as the Maestro Vibrato didn't show up until 1962 in the catalog. Id be curious to know if there is an earlier 1961 coronet factory equipped with a MV. The Coronet was first manufactured by Gibson under the Epiphone brand in 1959. It was priced at approximately $120 and was seen as a reliable entry-level guitar. A Les Paul Jr. was priced at $99.99 and, in my opinion, these. Coronets are a better build. By 1961 the price had climbed to $139.00 Free CONUS AKA lower 48 shipping. The Gibson Ledger indicates this was shipped in April 1961. The weight of these is in the 5 lb. range except the one with Maestro Vibrato. 1958 Coronet introduction specs 1 New York pickup 1 3/4" thick symmetrical body Square body edges.
