1961-62 Topps #60 NY Rangers Rookie JEAN RATELLE RC SGC 5.5 *Spectacular!*

Description: Hall of Famer Jean Ratelle's Rookie Card #60 from the 1961-62 Topps hockey set. Sportscard Guaranty Corp (SGC) has certified it as EX+ 5.5. Off-centered to the right as many of them are, the card has Nmt-Mt corners, clean surfaces front and back and a sharp image of the young HOFer against a bold green and yellow background. Centered I think this is an 8+ all day long. Recent eBay sales for cards with similar centering: An uncertified example for $350 in April A SGC 4.5 for $300 plus shipping in June Jean Ratelle entered the NHL late in the 1960-61 season after a spectacular junior career. It may have taken him several seasons to get going - his numbers were not spectacular through his first six full seasons and parts of three were spent in the AHL - in 258 NHL games he scored 58 - 81 - 139 with a minus 59. That was for a NY Rangers club that never finished better than 4th place those years and average 5th in the 6-team NHL. It's arguable whether expansion made his numbers better, but from the 1967-68 season to his last of six years with the Boston Bruins in 1980-81 he was one of the best 2-way players the game has ever seen. Before the Rangers sent him to Boston, they finished 2nd twice, third twide and 4th. Once the Bruins had him, they went 1-1-1-1-2-2, and went to the Stanley Cup Finals twice. In those additional 1,022 games, he scored 433 goals and put up 695 assists for 1,128 points with a plus 295. In the playoffs, he scored 32 - 66 - 98 with plus 15 in 123 games. He was a 9-time 30+ goal scorer and had 40+ assists 13 times. Never eye-popping offensively; he never led the league in any offensive category, but he did this while being considered one of the classiest players of all time. In 20 plus seasons and 1,400+ regular season and playoff games, he never had a fighting major, and was a 2-time winner of the Lady Byng Trophy. Elected to Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985.
