What Diane Likes About This DressThis dress is a little bit 1950s and a little 1960s. The start of the 1960s, was very similar to the 1950s. When the change happened in the later half of the century, it was fast and dramatic. This dress is a bit of a cusper and it walks the line between old and new. The sheath style is very 1950s. The flower style is also very conservative 1950s. The ruffle however, is definitely moving into the 60s, and you will start to see this kind of perma-pleat "lettuce hem" on cocktail dresses. The color combinations are becoming more bold in this dress. The background is a pale green while the flowers are a bright orange. Notice the leaves are not typical green, but blue. The 60s bold color choices are starting to display. It will be a matter of just a few months before fashion completely abandons all nods to the 1950s and dives head first into the 60s. That is what makes this dress especially interesting to me. It is like a plant that is just about to shed its old growth and bloom into something new. It lives with one foot in each era and walks that line very prettily. "Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self expression and, above all, attitude." Iris Apfel “Create your own visual style… Let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” Orson Welles This dress can ship ground advantage or priority mail. Both options are offered. I am always happy to combine shipping. I have a large amount of vintage clothing and am always adding new pieces.
