Elmer Kirchner, a dairy farmer from Kingston, New York, arrives at Federal House of Detention in New York City after he was held in contempt of court for refusing to discuss his failure to pay income taxes since 1956. Kirchner has resisted the Federal Income Tax, maintaining that it is unconstitutional because part of the money is used to support "foreign governments abroad." A federal judge has ruled Kirchner would be held in jail until he purges himself--by answering taxmen's questions. Kirchner went to jail.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 08-04-1960.
