Description: 1960 Silver Colored Heavy Metal Large Size Commemorative Medal 300th anniversary of the death of St Vincent De Paul Issued by the Vincentian Fathers of The Diocese of Brooklyn For Your Medal and Ribbon Collection-MED061 Details Description: A very nice silver colored and large size (50 mm) medal. The medal which is made os an uncertain metal is rather heavy for its size (58 grams). The medal has a nice raised image of St Vincent De Paul with a halo in the center of the obverse. It has the dates 1690 and 1990 on the side of the saint's figure. It has the words Saint Vincent De Paul above the image and has the inscription "Pater Pauperum" and "Lux Cleri" on either side below the dates. The reverse has the inscription "Vincentian Fathers Diocese of Brooklyn" and "Tercentenary Death of Saint Vincent" in raised lettering. The edge of the medal is smooth and unmarked. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1960. Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Artist: Unknown. Weight and Size: The medal is ~50 mm in diameter, is 3.2 mm in thickness at the edge, and weighs ~50 grams. Marks: Marked ITALY near the edge at about 4 O'clock of the obverse. Maker: Unknown. Condition: The piece is in very good condition. The medal is nice having a silver color with great eye appeal. The obverse has dark small spots (surface pitting) throughout where the silver color is lost, while the reverse has lost some of its silver coloring on the left side and bottom as well as some pitting too. These look much worse in the photos than in reality and the medal looks much better and the spots and losses of silver are hardly noticeable when you look at the medal under normal lighting. Be that as it may, the medal is still very nice and the details of St. Vincent are very well preserved and all there with minimum wear if any. If this was a coin, I would grade it as a good extremely fine or better. The medal has some minor scratches, but no significant dings that we could identify.
