Description: 1959 Topps #315 Bobby Shantz New York Yankees high-end NM B59#315A2 This is a high-end 1959 Bobby Shantz card with nice corners, straight edges and nicely centered. Nicely centered Nice corners Beautiful back Vintage ‘59 Shantz pitched 16 years in the majors and distinguished himself several times with 7 teams in his long career. He was signed in ‘48 by the Athletics in Philadelphia and spent one year in the minors. He began to distinguish himself with a nice year in ‘51 when he went 18-10 earning a spot on the All Star team. He absolutely established himself the following year, winning the MVP award with a league leading 24 wins against 7 losses and a second invitation to the All Star game. In ‘57, after joining the Yankees, Shantz added an ERA title to his list of achievements and a third and final invitation to the All Star game. Shantz for the remainder of his career reverted to relieving with occasional starts. He then essentially assumed the role of reliever until his retirement after the ‘64 season.
