1959 Playboy Jazz Festival Concert Ticket Miles Davis Count Basie Chicago others

Description: This auction is for an original ticket stub from the first Playboy Jazz Festival held at the Chicago Stadium on Friday, August 7, 1959 at 8pm. (The Festival had five different performances over Aug 7 - 9.) The festival was organized by Playboy Magazine. This Friday premiere was a benefit for the Chicago Urban League. This benefit included performances by Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Kai Winding, Dave Brubeck, Dakota Staton, and Joe Williams with Mort Sahl as M.C. With this ticket stub I'll include a photocopy of a newspaper ad for the concert and listing the above performers. This is a Mezzanine ticket, which cost $7.50 back in 1959. The large ticket stub measures 2-1/4" x 3-1/8". This right half of the ticket has "oy Jazz" "estival" along with the date. "Gate 5 Warren" and "West Madison Street" confirms that it the Chicago Stadium which was located at 1800 W. Madison (and entry gates were located on Madison or Warren.) The ticket stub is in good condition - there is a light 1-1/2" horizontal crease starting on the right edge near the middle - there is a light 1/2" diagonal crease in the upper right hand corner - there is a light 1/2" diagonal crease in the upper left hand corner - there are smaller creases in the lower right and lower left corners.
