El Centro, CA: Navy Display New Gun Pod--A Douglas A4D Skyhawk, equipped with the Navy's new gun pod which carries double barreled 20 millimeter automatic cannon, is put on display in El Centro, California Monday for the first time during the Naval Air Weapons meet. The pod is mounted in the center, beneath the fuselage. It was developed by the Navy Bureau of Ordnance and the aircraft division of Hughes Tool Company. The gun has eight times the firing rate of 20 mm cannon used in World War II. Photo measures 10 x 7.25inches. Photo is dated 04-12-1958.
