Description: This listing is for the rarest and most valuable Jackie Robinson card in existence: The 1958 Menko Doyusha Jackie Robinson. This is an error card that was produced by Japanese Menko card manufacturer Doyusha, which lists Cuban player Roberto Barbon as the named player written in Kanji on the front (along with #8, his jersey number). But the player shown is Jackie Robinson. How this card came to be, or when it was pulled from production is relatively unknown. However, there are only a handful of known copies in existence of this card (this is only the 8th copy graded by PSA, and only 2 have been graded by SGC). All other copies are low grade, as these were used by kids to play the Japanese card game Menko, in which kids would slam the cards down onto the floor in an attempt to flip over the other cards in a pile, thereby winning those cards from the other player. Somehow, this copy survived in pristine condition and was awarded an 8 by PSA. These cards only surface once every few years, and when they do, they fetch extremely strong prices. The most recent sale was for a PSA 3 which sold for $40k in 2023, followed by a PSA 2 which sold for $37k in 2023, and a PSA 1 which last sold for $29k in 2022. This card is new to the market and was a recent discovery from Kyoto, Japan. You can learn more about this card by watching the excellent documentary about it on youtube, which was produced by Victory Investments, titled "The Most Rare Jackie Robinson Baseball Card in Existence: 1958 Menko Doyusha Japan".
