The angling efforts of Staff Sergeant Johnny Pierce, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Pierce, 2414 6th Avenue, Renton, Washington, have produced a whale of a fish story about a Red Snapper that turned out to be a "gold" fish. The Hurlburt Sergeant won a $1000 United States Savings Bond offered as Grand Prize in the Destin (Florida) Gulf Coast Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, by landing a 32 pound 4 ounce Red Snapper. At that price, the Red Snapper represent a net retail value of thirty one dollars per pound. The Destin Rodeo is an annual fishing affair that attract deep sea fishing enthusiasts from all over the country. The small Gulf Coast city is fast becoming the deep sea fishing capitol of the world. Sergeant Pierce, the chief dispatcher for the 17th Bomb Wing's Transportation Squadron, entered the rodeo on the last day of the meet and walked off with top honors.Photo measures 8.25 x 10inches.
