At the time, Iwas not too taken aback by this fact.However, on the first llatout road run(see photo at bottom of next page),I never even bothered to hit fourthgear!This speed run was accomplished ona two-mile hard dirt straightaway. Dueto the cams, I found that the machinecame alive from about 4,000 rpm, andkept building to what 1 judged to be ap-proximately 5,800 rpm. I judged thespeedometer to be fairly accurate, giveor take about 3 mph, and in the ac-companying photograph, I am clocking93 mph in third cog. Consequently, dueto my age and responsibilities, I nevertroubled with fourth gear.Needless to say, the racing cams androad sprocket made dirt riding mostinteresting. 1 found I had no choice butto wind up tight in low cog (on theclock. 43 mph) and let the excellentspring frame take care of the rest. 1found that no matter how hard I camedown on the front end after coming offa jump, the forks would never bottom.Despite the fact that I had very littlechoice, due to the cams as to my speedapproach. 1 found the Clubman an ex-tremely comfortable one to ride.
